Although it literally means, “what if you do this”, it is used as a recommendation or an advice.

Examples

そんなに眠いならもう寝れば？
そんなにねむいならもうねれば？
If you are so sleepy, maybe you should go to bed.

This is used for “る”verbs (する, たべる, etc)
For “う”verb (ex かう), えよ is used.
For “す”verb (ex はなす), せよ is used.
For “く”verb (ex いく), けよ is used.
